Hey all, I'm looking at getting another mini with a 1275 in it. i was wondering if anyone has tried retrofitting an a/c system into theirs? (im sure there are) I had a rover mini that ran better with the a/c on cause the extra fan kept the engine cool. lol

But I was wondering if any of you have first hand experience on the older ones? and if any of you have suggested places to do it in Sydney or Canberra

There's no reason you couldn't fit a small under dash unit and basicly copy the rover set up for the engine side of things. I've fitted units to MGs and E types, both have limited interia space. You can also do smal mod to SU's to add idle up circuit. I sold the a/c out of mine to a guy who fitted it to an early mini.

Just hunt around mini wreckers and see if you can find a pre-96 setup. Before '91 would be better as the wiring is simpler.

Wouldn't it be easier to put a 60's grill on a 90's mini?

:/ a little off topic?

in SA there was a leyland with rover a/c retro fitted with full rover interior, so yes id say its entirely possible to fit they had the condensor behind the grille

I suppose one of the troubles is where would I position the vents in the cabin. lol

but then again, with it being so small I'm sure just two vents hidden on both sides should suffice. Now to try and find an A/c system!

The units up to about 91 are under dash, so you could fit them in any Mini with only a few extra holes drilled in the shell.
