amongst many, but please excuse my naivety on this

My engine seems to be missing and I have what sounds like an little click from around my distributor every time the engine misses

is this my dizzy gone or is it something simple or is it something else and I'm hearing it wrong? It does seem to get worse when the engine gets warm

am I not running on all four cylinders (pun not intended!)

taaaaaaa

Could be a crack in the dizzy cap, or a faulty plug lead. Maybe...

Time for a tuneup at Lordy's?

Just to add to what the above have said , get someone to start it up in the dark ,whilst you have a look around the dizzy area ,you should see where , if any sparking is going on .

You need to ID the dizzy or show us a pic.
Dizzy type is marked on the body. For a `68 or `69 Matic it's probably a 29D.

Could be condensation-
Pull the cap off. Wash it inside & out with WD40. Wipe dry with tissues.
Spray inside lightly with WD40 then refit.
Also check the points gap is .015".

That is the dreaded 29D Kev is correct. I have new caps for all other Lucas distributors except for the 29D. I will have a very good one thouigh if that is what you will need but by the time I post it down to you it is not going to be cheap. Australia Post have just put prices up again last week. Your leads don't look crap hot either!

You could always bin that dizzy and fit a 45D, parts for them are more available and IMO they are better made.
If buying new leads, I find the Bosch inductive core ones are good- they don't increase resistance with age like the carbonized string ones (eg Top Gun) do.

[edit]
Bosch plug leads-
3 x B35Ri,
1 x B45Ri
1 x B30CRi (coil lead)

Available off the rack @ Supercrap, Repco etc for ~$5.95 ea.

So pull the roller door down or go out at night (when the blackness has come down)....an arcing dissy cap is fairly easy to spot then :!:

Heee hee or if no one is watching, throw a heavy blanket over you and the open bonnet...
