I am debating in my head what to do for a dash, I am torn between a full walnut dash something like this http://minispares.com//product/classic/DASH005.aspx or a cooper style center one like this http://minispares.com/product/classic/13H4444KIT.aspx what is everyone thoughts? I do currently have a 3 gauge set to suit the walnut type and a few 2 gauge as well, but I would need the full set to go the cooper one. I like the look of of both, I just can't decide which look i prefer?

So what do you prefer and why?

I'm a big fan of the works style dashes, you can make one up of a centre binnacle and works pods from minispares.

Though it's definitely a matter of taste!

I wasn't happy with any of the options so my auto electrician is making up a custom carbon job. Bearing in mine that my car has no air vents, radio or speakers or any creature comforts at all though. Mine's basically all gauges and kill switches.

I like these innocenti style ones from abs motorsports http://www.absmotorsport.co.uk/index.ph ... 2gtiF5yGhM

They have some great dash styles that you don't see everyday.

For the walnut dash was about $65 AUS with a few other things added. Which I didn't think was to bad for the size of it I had bit of a search around last night and most of the othe UK site were around or above $100AUS for postage for their dashes.

That's pretty good. Makes it just under $300 to your door. A lot cheaper than ms

I DIY'd mine - found some scrap plywood and got a nice piece of burled blackwood from my dad (who was a sawmiller). I think it cost me $8 all up, because I bought the finish.

A fundamental question is whether you plan on using top and bottom crash pads. Rover dashes, which are the typical after market ones only fit if you have a top crash pad. The older style timber ones fit inside the steel top and bottom rails.

Looks good Irish I had thought about this, do you have to allow for the curve when using the crash pads?
I do have the crash pads and again I'm flexible on using them depending on the direction I take, I was thinking of using them though.

It was a while ago I made it, but I used a template I found on www.theminiforum.co.uk for the general outline, and it worked OK. There's not much curve there so it would only add a few mm to the length. I did find that mine curved vertically a little bit though which left a bit of a gap (which you can see in the picture), but nothing terrible.

i made mine out of MDF and then covered it in vinyl, i just shaped the mdf so suit the curve on the dash rails i can take pics of it if you want. there so easy to make, and you can put radio/ gauges anywhere you want, i also modify the plastic gauge cluster on the clubman to suit the dash. so it looks factory.
