I have a sealing face that is a little worse for wear. It's where the heater pipe bolts to the cylinder head (on the drivers side).

The heater pipe flange was rooted, but I cleaned that up with a flat file. The face on the head is a little corroded....and this I can't change.

I put 2 gaskets between the flange and head. Is this acceptable? Or will this leak?

It was leaking with a single gasket. :x

Not sure if a 2nd gasket is going to help. You might get away with a gasket & some RTV silicon on each side though.

How deep is the pitting?

hmmm...my theory was that the double thickness would help squash into the pitting to create a seal.

The pitting isn't deep, but it's no 'flat face' :( I can only speculate about the depth.....at a guess maybe .005" - .010"

Is this on JAM? And the head's just been all painted and looks yummy?

Because I was going to suggest a better way to go is to get the pitting brazed up and machined flush. What a PITA huh :?

What about building up the mating face with some DevCon ?
(Engineering supplies....)

should be heat-resistant to about 1700'f ........

you can file it, shape it, whatever.... just give it enough time to go-off ...

Its what i did with my Thermo housing on the last 202 head i used.... hasnt leaked since...

Anton, give it a go with 2 gasket & some silicon, i had the same problem on Pen's Clubman it worked on it.

as of last night I have put 2 gaskets with copious amounts of Loctite #4 gasket goo. I am hoping the hard setting goo, plus the 2 gaskets will be enough.

In theory I should have looked at this when the head was stripped bare.... :x I could have had that face machined........

Devcon will be the alternative I think. Heard about it years ago....never used it (yet).

Cheers for the feedback guys.

 Bend the tin flange up a bit at each end, it's probably bent the other way from over-tightening.
I uas Loctite 515 Master gasket on all the water joints now- it's magic stuff. Would want to be for $18/tube, hey.

It's $25 a tube west of blacktown!
But it is good stuff I'll agree.

It's also the reason my gearboxes don't leak. For a while, anyway. 8)
