yeah they were a bit edgy...i have learned the hard way to wear gloves in the garage whenever doing this kinda stuff though...as you say: i have the scars to prove it :P

they were actually easier to put together than the crane...atleast the instructions were pretty easy to follow with the shelving :P

'Zuma, if that garage has a concrete ceiling you should be able to drill into that pretty easy. I did that at a rental place I was staying at and they had no problems, I just left the hooks in there. I just used wall plugs (the plastic ones) and they worked fine.

I got some 2ft flouro lights out of the trading post for $10 each, $2 powerboard and $2 extension lead and it gave plenty of light. I just used cup hooks screwed into the ceiling and builders string to hang them.

I also use the hammerlock shelving. It's handy for the price, just don't get the tops wet and watch those corners! I also had a 4ft twin over the workbench (that I made out of a couple of half height hammerlock shelves).

ok...the time has come to purchase a proper workbench...i know the shelving i bought can be used as a workbench...but i am not too keen on that idea...any suggestions as to what would be the best thing for a workbench?

Andrew,

I would buy some 2nd's steel from the scrap metal merchant and weld your own up.

This would give you three things: a strong workbench, a cheap workbensh, practice in welding steel.

Then just ocver it with some 20-25mm ply (preferably form ply or some other HD).

My two cents.

Andrew

Is that your new workbench in the back ground, just screw off a bit of ply to the top of the shopping trolley and you have a portable bench.
