Finally got to do the braking tests and lane change manovering test
Yesterday took my car to A.I.R. and completed tests without a problem after waiting
the last few of months for the engineer to get enough cars together to make it all
worth while ie so I wasn't the only one having to hire the track
Only have to wait for his report then can get the car inspected and hopfully it will be all legal

Well done 92. I've got to do the same thing in a little while. Was it particularly difficult. Like, were you ever worried about not passing the tests. My engineer has access to the old dragway up here in Canberra so not much of a wait thankfully. Which track did you go to...

Dean depending on who you talk to there may well be this possibility. While not a complete kit car you have fundamentally changed your front subframe, and you are putting in a completely different engine. Not saying definitely but I wouldn't be surprised if you have to...But you are in NSW which seems heaps easier than ACT, QLD and possibly VIC...

AFAIK over here in WA a stability test is only required when the steering geometry has changed. This includes fitting oversized rims/tyres.

Hoping to get away without it as I am using std subie suspension/track/rims
and I haven't budgeted for it

dean dont worrie mate, we have no such test here. The only time the engineer even saw mine moving was when i drove it down the street to get on the weigh bridge

Wasn't particularly hard the braking test involves doing 15x 60kmh to 0 stops each within 25 secs. followed by 2 100kmh to 0 stops which must be made with a minimun of .8g
The lane change test the car is traveling at 110kmh the drives through a simulated lane with cones and has to change from one lane to another then back again without hitting any cones, the width of the lane is determined by car width so it is even for any car big or small
In SA we don't have capacity to weight restictions but have things like the engine cannot produce more than 15% more power than standard doesn't count for conversions though I think but I cannot increase the power of the starlet engine legallyby more than 15%

thats more for emmissions than safety.. emmissions tests are expensive and a hassle

That's an interesting one lobby, my engineer is a registered signatory in both ACT and NSW I might ask him about this. I would have thought that once passed for rego you wouldn't have to get new cert just to register in another state. Still given that ACT has some of the harshest engineering and rego laws I think moving to another state will make things easier (like NSW!).
