I got excited by some of the clips in the EAA videos put up by
rookiepilot, so i decided to go into the garage and modify the breather pipe that i had.
The original was basically a PVC hose run from the rocker cover to the catch bottle. Very untidy.
I got some of these water pipe holders from the hardware shop, i don't know if the same are available in Australia. They are dirt cheap at 1.30euro for 10, and designed to hold hot water pipes, so i figured that it would suit my purpose.
I decided to fit them on top of the head studs at the front of the head. To do this i needed to drill out the hole to fit. I also had to cut a nut in half as there were no thin enough nuts in my stockpile.
The nut fits into the slot like this. It is not dead centre, but that does not really matter in the application.
Here is the first one fitted to the head stud. I only tightened it finger tight since you cannot get a spanner or socket in there. I used some Loctite 262 to lock the nut in place with all the vibration it is going to experience. If the head needs to come off, the plastic pipe holder can be sacrificed because they are so cheap, think of them as a consumable.
The second holder is now fitted and the aluminium 13mm tube is locked in place. You could use 12mm copper, or larger size pipe with larger holders.
Some hose is connected up, using 12mm copper 90 degree elbows to get it around the end of the rocker cover.
There are some clearance issues with the thermostat housing.
Solved by using the trick from the EAA site of using a piece of hose as a standoff and securing with a cable tie. I used some leftover 1/4" fuel hose, so it is reinforced.
Next step was to route the radiator overflow hose parallel to the crankcase breather pipe. Again using the hose piece standoff technique.
I also used the hose piece standoff technique at the rear of the engine bay to secure the fuel line, heater hose and choke cable so that there is no chance of any of them rubbing through on anything.
A good 2 hours spent in the garage. Thanks for the ideas rookiepilot
cheers
michael
