I bite the bullet and installed one of Tony's Distributors and Stealth boxes

Installation was very easy and the car fired up first go :lol:

Only issue I can't find an old enough laptop that runs windows 7 to load the software

So its running default settings, on the test drive i can actually feel the curve change at different revs and I like it :twisted:

tomorrows task is to find a laptop and start playing. i have tried virtual machines but it won't work. has anyone had any success running it in a VM ?

You are smarter (and probably younger) than me. Got a Macbook Air, but I use my old desktop PC and 20ft of USB cable..!

Took me a couple of hours but I got it working on my macbook pro using Vmware fusion running windows 7


I confess I have worked in IT for over 20 years and and work for the company that owns VMware the company so I have a small advantage.


Anyway ill drive it to work this morning and see how it goes.





Now how do I work out a base line curve and what should I set the rev limiter too?

I used my gunson carb balancer and the carbs are now balanced also used my colour tune so all cylinders are firing the same and nice and blue with a tinge of orange (slightly over fueled) found that works best.

OK I used a dial back timing light to map my modded Nissan Pulsar dizzy's advance.
I then dumped the numbers into the black box.The head on my car is bathtubbed and needs 9deg more advance all the way up.
I then massaged a couple of the mid points to optimise torque and eliminate pinging.

Here are my final numbers with 9 deg removed, to suit a std chamber shaped head.
I have put these into two members cars here with good results.

Set dizzy advance fixed to TDC.

RPM, Advance, Dwell
10rpm, 6, 30deg
1000, 13, 30
1500, 15, 30
2000, 18, 40
2500, 24, 45
3000, 28, 50
3500, 30, 50 deg
NOTE- advance is then a flat line up to the rev limiter [if used].

My rev limit is 7500 (it has an EN40B S crank in).

What Dwell settings should I use

and the second question

I noticed that moving the dizzy still changes the timing does this meanI still have to set the timing ? and IF so how do I do that if I have no timing marks how do I find TDC
I have run my timing light but can't get a reading

think i just got the answer to the TDC question

Turn engine to TDC with rotor pointing to number one HT lead. Mark the position. Loosen the clamp and remove distributor. When fitting new distributor it may be necessary on some models to use the existing clamp. Insert Distributor.
a. Distributors with an offset keyway can only be inserted in 1 position. Once inserted the position of the rotor now points to number one, the cap and leads should be fitted accordingly.
b. Distributors with a gear can be fitted in any position. It should be inserted attempting to position the rotor to the same position as the old unit. Once fitted the rotor will be pointing to number one , fit cap and leads accordingly

You need to find tdc, if it has the stock flywheel there are marks there. Use a mirror to view.
If not, put a pushrod in #1 cylinder with piston near top. Support it with a dial gauge on a magnetic base. Turn motor to show tdc of piston.Then make a sheet metal pointer and mount near crank pulley, and file a mark on the pulley.
The locked dizzy is then fitted and set to fire at tdc, check with timing light.
Do this before hooking up the black box.

Once black box is hooked up, leave dizzy alone. Adjust timing by programming.

i am going to try and video what i see with the timing light and mirror it doesn't look right one minute i see a bolt next part of the flywheel

Id love to see one on youtube of what it suppose to look like

Use a mirror and torch, put the car in top. Plugs out, and roll forward. There should be some kind of mark on flywheel unless you are real unlucky. Sometimes just 4 lines representing 0.5.10.15. Cooper s is tricky cause booster is in way. That's why something on the crack pulley is better as suggested.

Regarding using MacBook and vm fusion I struggled with a Windows related issue that had nothing to do with it being virtual. There's a thread on here somewhere. Couple of pc brains on here helped me out.
