Hi Guys,

I just got my new inlet manifold (for twin 1.25" SUs) from Maniflow in the UK!

I'm sending my rocker cover away to the electroplaters to be chromed, and thought i may get em to do the inlet manifold too.

Is there anything bad about getting this done? Does it bugger up flow?

can you actually chrome alloy? I polished mine on the bench grinder wire brush and it's lovely and shiny

This one is made from mild steel. I have some pics but have never posted pics, if you want i can email em to ya.

I just thought that it might do funny things to the air/fuel mix having a really smooth port. But i could be crazy?

never seen a steel one - there you go..... I'm sure the electroplaters could block the port holes so the treatment only goes on the outside, but polishing ports and the manifold is a common performance enhancement - reduce the surface friction through the airway so the mixture doesn't slow down at the edges. I doubt if it'd cause noticable performance loss, but block them up anyway

the whole thing is immersed in liquid, all surfaces get coated unless they're covered, in this case, they'd put something in the holes to stop the liquid getting in

It's gonna be a new addiction, I can tell now....

I think you can buy your own nickel plating kit for about $160, chroming kits are a bit more, but why stop there, start gold plating it

From what I remember chroming your inlet manifold is actually discussed as a performance type mod not just for bling

The shiny reflective surface reflects heat away from the manifold keeping the inlet charge cool so you get more air and fuel in the piston.

don't know how much difference it makes but anyway...

Vizard says in a highly moded engine it can give you up to 4-5hp or something like that if you chrome plate the inlet manifold becuase of heat reflection.

You can do it the cheap way which is to use elbow grease and polish it by hand then machine polish it. But if you are going to do the rocker cover then by all means...

I don't mind a bit of elbow grease to polish things up, but it IS mild steel, and a bit of surface rust over my freshly polished manifold would annoy me...

I know, put a coat of clear lacquer on it

But I just like chrome.... man is it shiny.... (dazzled look as he gazes into the shine....)

lol mine is alloy or aluminium of some sort, not steel so polish will stay good...
