Hi, new to the forum. Have the opportunity to buy a mint condition mini K. It's a 1969 with genuine 15k miles on the clock. Fully restored in 1992 including respray. Has a few new mods....cooper S gear box, twin carbs. Can someone please give me an idea of what I should look at in terms of price, but also what makes it a genuine K over just a regular mini 1100. Cheers in advance.

I think a Mini K is a Mini 1100.

I understood that the mini k was the mk 2 model of the round nose minis. The mini k, which stood for kangaroo being an Australian only model, had an all syncro gearbox with a 1098cc motor with an 1 1/4 carburetor. it had a three clock binnicle like the mk 2 s with an oil pressure guage and temperature guage. The speedo was different than a cooper s thouigh. the interior was the same. they had a sticker of the kangaroo that you see on aussie war planes etc on the A panels. the bonnet badge was round and displayed a bull as used on the mini matics. the boot badge said morris mini 1100. they continued till 1971 which few were released with clubman type doors as are some mk 2 cooper s.

The Mini K was the next model after the Morris Mini Deluxe. The Deluxe ended some time in 1969 and the Mini K replaced it. Yes it had those improvements you mentioned

I have a '69 Mini K I bought new.
When you say "mini 1100" do you mean the Mini De Luxe (998cc) that came out before the K, or the base model 1100?
Mini K had oval binnacle with temp and oil pressure gauges same as MkII S; gearbox casing was 22G1128 - same as MkII S (gear ratios slightly different); engine No 10YCTAH-XXXX; no compliance plate or vehicle ID plate for most of '69; alternator; bonnet had round Morris motif acrylic badge (not metal wings); boot had "MORRIS MINI 1100"; dished steering wheel; horn on end of blinker stalk; gear lever painted black (not chrome) and bent back towards rear of car for easier reach.
Check rust in front floors and boot floor corners among other usual places - sills, gutter even.
Not sure on prices but they seem to be rising... maybe $10,00 for a genuine good one (?).

So, does it mean the K is a potential good investment?

An original K would be a good investment. Lots have been reshelled into Cooper Ss.

Our Mini K has been in the family from new, my mum bought it in 1970 and hardly used it, I inherited it when she passed on and it sat around for several years, when my daughter turned 18 in 1994 she asked could she have the Mini, so it was 24 years old at that stage and had 11,000 miles on the clock, I got it running and repainted it and gave it to her, she drove it for 17 years as a daily and put around another 120,000 miles on it, never really gave her any trouble, brakes a clutch and a few other small items but other than that it was pretty reliable. In 2011 she parked it up as she needed a bigger car for the type of work she did and it is sitting in my garage waiting on a full resto, who knows when that will be as I can't see her having the funds to do it. It will probably sit in my garage gathering dust for ever and become a barn find some where in the future. Motor has never been out of the car and was running fine when taken off the road. A pic of it in 1994, it is a bit more tired looking today after all these years.

A Good original K will increase in value.
