I may well get shot down with this, however it has been my experience
that if you change the GTR104 temp sender unit to a GTR101 unit
the temp indicated on the gauge tends to be more accurate.

I am sure the Doc could better advise you on this, however, it is my understanding that the cooling problems with the Mini east west mounted engine, are different to those of the north south mounted engines.

The second point I would make is avoid using the tin impeller type water pump at all times.

Your Gracious Majesty...if I may?

Moss 760-180 - Unipart GTR104 - Smiths SNB102 or TT3802/00

Moss 131-565 - Unipart GTR101 - Smiths SNB103 or TT3803/00

101 reads "N" at 180 deg and the 104 or Moss #760-180 reads halfway between "N" and "H

In Pomgolia:

GTR102 TRANSMITTER, water temperature 1961-64.
GTR104 TRANSMITTER, water temperature 1964-69.
GTR101 TRANSMITTER, water temperature 1969-85.

I Agree with your comments, I have found that the GTR104 that are avail today
just do not always perform as they should

One time I had the sender out of the head. Stuck it in kettle and boiled the water with a digital thermometer in the water . I seem to remember mine was 76 like docs. I have a wombat stabiliser too. Mine is the type with a red hot area. 100deg was right at the start of the part marked red.
