Rookie Q here

Is this
http://minisport.com.au/mini-clutch-mas ... -ring-type

The slave cylinder rekit for a mk1/2 S?

Is there a seal spreader in there? I've heard about the need for one but not sure if it's in that linked product

Cheers!

The link you have attached is a Master Cylinder Kit.

Here is the Pre-verto slave kit for a MK1 and MK2 S. http://minisport.com.au/mini-clutch-sla ... ter-rubber
It does not come with a seal spreader. If you are rekitting an original slave then it will have the heavy duty spreader inside already. If you are rekitting a later repro slave then it will have a thin washer as the seal spreader and that will need to be purchased separately.

If you have a Verto slave cylinder then this is the kit to use. http://minisport.com.au/mini-verto-clut ... repair-kit No seal spreader is used as it uses an o-ring seal and not a cup seal.

My goodness didnt even read the heading saying master cylinder.

Thanks for the link. Have done a verto but having read some caution about the seal spreader of non-verto I just wanted to be sure I did it right.

Thanks heaps! :)

Most of the other Mini parts suppliers will have the kit. Here's one closer to home.

Ripper thanks.
MSpares seems to think rust means don't bother rekitting.
With the verto it was easy to hone it down and the rekit was fine.
Thoughts on if it should be the same for this one?

If it's been used recently just hone it and fit new seals. I have never bought a new slave for MY cars, since 1964. :)

Hi guys - this link winabbey posted. Am I correct in saying that this kit includes the famous cup spreader that everyone advises to fit to the new slave cylinders?

I'd like to install the spreader in mine, just need to find a source. I want to get other stuff from MKO so if this is it, it would be an easy click.

Edit: I just pmd Dr Mini as he has made them in the past, so that's another possibility I'm working on

No experience with that kit, but the photo does not appear to show the spreader. When my 12 month old slave started leaking I rebuilt it with a Lockheed seal kit from Minisport and used a spreader out of an old cylinder - I think Dr. Mini makes them if you don't have an old slave handy.

I replied to Morbo28, yes I still have some seal spreaders left @ $15, posted.

If buying new slave cylinders, the genuine AP cylinder has a spreader, but the cheapo ones do not.

This is what you are chasing. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=90249

Seal Spreader.jpg

In the photo below the top slave cylinder is a new repro type and it only has a flimsy seal spreader. One good thing is they have done away with the circlip. This allows the piston to move further out as mechanical pivot points start to wear. The bottom slave cylinder is original and has the large seal spreader. I just swapped the old seal spreader to the new slave cylinder.

Bloody champion thanks for that GTO! I ordered one from the doc and I'll install it like what you have in the pics. Cheers :)

I found the common silver coloured ones just had a short bit of steel rod in there. No spreader at all. Unless you drove it daily they sucked air in.
