I'm having trouble locating a driver-side door handle for my mini k van. The existing handle is in pretty bad shape and is missing the locking barrel.

Is it possible (with-out too much trouble) to modify a new 850 sliding window door handle and barrel to make it fit mine?

An original handle is proving hard to find.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can mod a boot lock barrel to fit, according to John Smidt.
I'm not sure of handle difference between 850 and windup doors. Except 850 one is shorter and were easy to break.

850 handle will fit with not much modification required however, as the doc mentioned, they are shorter so will not line up with the little handle stop bumper thing. Our K has an 850 handle on the passenger side that I'm about to replace with the correct item.

Apart from the missing barrel, which I'm sure you can locate, depending on what sort of "bad shape" your existing handle is in, you can have it rechromed if that will make a difference.
There is a place in Queanbeyan that rechromed my son's Minor rear door handles. Not cheap but came out brilliantly.

I just noticed while looking for some other junk that Minisport in Adelaide list a used RH door handle if you have not found another solution yet.

Thanks Tim, at $295 I think I would be better to have mine re-chromed and modify a second hand boot lock barrel to match.

It's good to know that they must be hard to come given the price.

Yep, I think that is the go, I have a donor clubman van that may be losing a rear door handle lock.

I have a lead on a S/H door handle so will follow that up first.

Does anyone have a ballpark figure on the cost of having a door handle re-chromed?

Cheers

My son's Minor handles (2 rears only, no escutcheons) cost him about $200 each - he can't, or doesn't want to, remember exactly.
