I've searched top to toe for a price guide on both restoration, and indeed the purchase costs of a morris... I have my eyes on one thats in pretty poor nick, but want to see what you guys would say would be in the ball park. Currently I just stare at it thru the fence, but I can tell its pretty poorly.

Even if its something along the lines of

Sh!thouse condition: Offer X, Rebuild costs could be in the ball park of X.... This would be really helpful

Impossible to say without more info or photos. Condition, completeness and rarity will vary the price. A rusty Cooper S could fetch $10k. A rusty Deluxe $1k.

Racing heritage can add more value.
Missing ID plate and chassis numbers will lower the value. Matching numbers with original purchase documentation can increase value.

Some cars are valued on the parts value - eg a rusty deluxe fitted with a 1275cc engine and disc brakes will fetch $3-$4k as people just want the bits of it.

Try and get the car id details and photos.

Is the car up for sale or is it one of those cars that sits in some old blokes yard until he passes away? You have to be careful how you approach some mini fanatics.

Alot of times it is cheaper to buy a car already completed. It can cost tens of thousands to do a resto.

It's hard sometimes to put values on them, especially if they have strong sentimental value to the owner. I've seen cars, not just minis, rust into the ground because the owner just can't part with them because it was a part of their family.
The ones I hate are the people who do nothing with them but won't sell them unless they get six times the value. i.e. the totally rusted out cooper S sitting in the back paddock, "Yeah, its for sale, they're worth $25,000 done up, you can have it for $20,000."
Being an ex road service guy, I saw lots of 'barn gems', one that comes to mind was a V8 2 door Torana, not the A9X, but the top of the range standard one. The old guy had it from new, perfect nick but unregistered because his wife had passed away and it was her car. I had asked him numerous times about it but he couldn't part with it as it reminded him of her.
He died and his daughter GAVE it to scrap metal guy! He sold it on ebay for nearly $30,000.

Now THAT would make you Pi$$ed .

Talking to mini "experts" and some of my personal experience a rough restoration guide for an fair condition "S" as follows:

Engine $10k
Body $15k
Interior $5k
Suspension $4k
Other $?


That's why I purchased a 95% restored Mini.

I am in Melbourne. Interested in other members thoughts.

It also depends on how much you can do yourself or if you know people who know what they are doing & can help.

Average cost $100.000. I have seen an Iso Revolta restored $450.000.cost the guy had plenty of money,

Cheers guys, this car is just sitting in the back of someones warehouse garage, doesn't move, and looks to be in pretty poor nick. Which is all mighty fine for the budget, but the resto will be a bit of a grind. But only being 17 I'm willing to learn, I already prep my alfa racecar so "How hard can it be" . Going to see the guy tomorrow hopefully... See if I can get a bargain,

Make the fella an offer you feel comfortable with in the knowledge that there is always a good deal of mechanical work to do...think about what you want it for, a trailer queen concourse example or a roadworthy little box that will give you a lot of fun? or somewhere's in between

The first thing to ask is "Can I get rid of that old Mini for you....". Based on the response (i.e. if he's not happy for you to take it away for nothing then you might ask what he would want for it...

Some time ago I tried to buy the doors off a heap in the paddock ... I was somewhat surprised when the guy said "No, you can't have the doors." But more than happy when he went on to say that, if I wanted the doors, then I had to take the whole car away....

I wanted the doors..he wanted the heap out of his paddock.... win/win... Having dragged it onto the trailer it was surprising how solid the floors etc were after many years exposed to the elements..

Don't be scared by the numbers being thrown up... I'm always surprised at the amount of money some people have to fling around... If I had spare 100 grand I wouldn't be throwing it at a Mini...

A good project can be done for a fraction of that ... You just need to align your capabilities with your ambition.
