Does anyone know if this wiper motor http://minikingdomonline.com.au/product ... ype-recon/ is OK on a '68 Deluxe?

The number on my current wiper motor is 62971023A. The number on this motor is 62971039A.

I can't seem to find any information about what the differences are.

All I can tell you is that the latter has been shown in Mini Kingdom's catalogue since 1998/1999 as the wiper motor for Australian round noses from 1968.

Just chatting to John Smidt at MKO. All round-nose Minis with the later scuttle panel with indentations for the wiper spindles and wiper blades parking on the passenger side can use this round-bodied wiper motor, so it will be OK for your car. I assume your current motor is round-bodied like the MKO one?

At the last Ballarat swap meet I was talking to a person on a Lucas electrical stand that had a lot of NOS parts and Lucas catalogues.
Apart from the single and two speed motors the catalogue showed different part numbers for +ve and -ve earth motors.
As far as I can work out the wiring to the brushes is opposite in +ve and -ve earth motors.
Does it make any difference in practice as these are permanent magnet motors?
I will have to brush up on my DC motor theory.

Interestingly, there is a note on the BMC engineering drawing for the Lucas 12AUW round-bodied wiper motor about recognising a negative earth item - see below.

Doug was asking about the w/w motor, not the car.
My mid-68 Deluxe has the scuttle panel as described by Doug, but it has a 62971023A 12AUW w/w motor dated 4/68.
It would seem that Mr Lucas must have introduced a non-significant mod to the round bodied w/w motors but one that justified a new part number, viz 62971039A.

Of course he was. Yes, it's a round bodied wiper motor. 7/68, but no guarantees that's the one that came with the car.

The round body type wiper motor was fitted to few vehicles in the BMC Leyland range
including Morris II00 Marina, Morris 1500 etc, so it is possible that over the years some wiper
motors from vehicles other than minis have been modified to fit the Mini, by changing the drive plate
so that the sweep is correct. but not always changing the cover plate. this will add to the confusion re
part numbers.

I am sure a lot of people already know this, however it is worth pointing out that there are two different
models of the round body single speed wiper motor, each with its own part number,
However If you have a round body wiper motor on your car you can change it for another Mini round body
wiper motor, without modifications to your vehicle

If your body number is in the region of 34000 it probably is the original.
