Hi all
The time has come to get my mark 1 into the shed and start the resto, I will have lots of questions coming no doubt
Motor and gearbox is coming out for rebuild and repaint .
Was there an original colour used on the motor or were they all different
Thanks in advance

The Australian Mk 1 engine & gearbox were painted "Cooper S Metallic Green" over the original dark green UK paint, The paint code is CP 8689.

500ml tins are available from Mini Kingdom. It took the full 500ml to paint mine with three good coats.
Make sure you clean the engine thoroughly before painting otherwise the paint will not stick - I washed mine four times with Prepsol, prior to that the engine had been cleaned by the engine rebuilder.

I only ever paint my engines with cheap rattle cans in whatever colour I feel like on the day, but I always give them a coat of etch primer first - never had it flake off, so that's my tip

What if you are painting over old paint? What's the best prep?
