Hi all,

I'm currently putting my subframe back in and have hit a bit of a hurdle. When I go to tighten the tie rod ends and ball joints I can get a thread or two on the nut and then it just seems to spin. Is there a trick to it?

Cheers

You might need to jack the under the bottom suspension arm a little just to get some pressure on the taper of the ball joint pin to help stop it turning.
The nut should spin on freely until it gets to the nylon insert though. If it's not doing this I would check you have the correct threaded nut first.

Yes, first make sure you have the correct threads on the nuts, you should have about 5-6 turns before you reach the nylon part.

I would also check your ball joints are shimmed corrently as there should be at least a bit of resistance to spinning if they are.

I have never had to use a jack under the tie rods or hub/ball joint, usually I can manually push the joint to the point where the taper is in far enough that it resists free spinning.

Watch the threads on tie rod ends, I have found some recent ones are M10 fine, not the correct 3/8 UNF...!
What you get when parts supply is sourced from all and sundry.

Thanks for the replies. It's all the same parts. I wonder if I did some damage using the ball joint cracker to get them off in the first part?
Will check for shims and use the jack to put some load on it.

Have you got a die nut to spin on to clean up the threads ?
