84-87 City or Civic discs fit- maybe earlier and later too- check if calipers look the same..

Is the head casting number on the top or bottom of the head?

I'm going to a self serve wreckers this weekend and i want to know if i need to remove the head and flip it or just the rocker cover?

*crossed fingers*

thanks guys..

Michael (er.. Cushy, big daddy, over, kshhht)

Disregard any numbers CAST onto front, near the thermo housing.
The real numbers are under the rocker cover- usually near the middle, but on some small bores it's near #4 rocker post.

<edit> some 1275 heads(12G940 type) have a number stamped on top close to the thermo housing in small letters- 12G938 is an 1100S head, 12G1805 is a MK2 S head.

If you are after a 12G940, also consider the 12G1316 (used on 1275LS etc)- it's basically the same but with smog (air injection ports) added. Often cheaper too..

okay, I'm sure doc will shoot me down in flames if I'm wrong LOL.

I have a 12g938 head on my 1275(stamped behind the thermostat housing in really small letters which I had to scrape paint off to see).

But after a bit of research I've come to the conclusion, that if yer gonna get hardened valve seats for unleaded, then the maximum valve size between the two heads is identical. Normally the S head had larger valves.

The Rover unleaded seats for the 29mm ex valves are pretty thin, and will go in with either a 33mm or 35.6 inlet valve. With the S (35.6) inlet valves the inlet seat cut will mark slightly into the top corner of the exhaust insert, but that's OK.

I've already put a set of these inserts in a 1316 head, which has 33mm rimflo inlet valves.

On this 1316 head I'm probably going with the 35.6mm inlets, exhausts are 29mm. I would have fitted 31mm exhausts like my current 1310 has, and no inserts but the ******' ex seats have been cut too deep.. :x
