:?: :?:
Hello all,
My fiance has just brought himself a Mini, but we dunno what it is!
It has the Mini K 1100 stickers/badges on the front guards, a Morris 850 engine and the Morris 850 badge on the tailgate, and the tailgate is the English kind. Is it cross bred or what the hell?
It doesnt have the sliding windows and on the back of the speedo it has 1969 on it.
It also doenst have a compliance plate either, so I dunno how we are going to register it
I have a pic of the interior but I dunno how to post it on here! If someone can post the pic on here that would be great!
Please help me guys!
(For a change its not Beefa thats pissing me off!)

Lynda

If the car is in it's original or at least very old paint, and the stickers on the side look
aged to suit, my money is on it being a K.

The stickers look a bit faded but they dont look chipped or anything. Its just weird. I was thinking maybe an 850 becuase of the badge on the tailgate and the engine, but I need your opinons fellas!

Many K's built in `69 didn't have a compliance plate.
Do the wipers park right or left- and are there recesses in the body around the wiper shafts?
Check the number on top of radiator shroud, that should tell us all what it is.

It sounds like a "K" that has been fiddled with. A "K" should have an 1100 and an "Australian" boot lid.

Compliance plates didn't arrive till later and build plates stopped in early 1969 so about a years worth of cars had no plates.
They only need a chassis number and an engine number to register a car built before compliance plates.

The wipers park left and there look like there are slight recesses.
We cant see the number on the radiator, its too difficult to see, I think it needs to be sanded back or something!
I hope we can register it easy enough

You will need to sand it back until number is legible, touch up after it's registered.

Just looking at the workshop manuals and the Identification plate was dropped in June 1969 and the Compliance plate was fitted from 1 jan 1970. So your car should be a late 1969.

Look at the wiper motor and the ignition switch and see if they have a date around the same time.

Number on radiator shroud should have a prefix which will ID what it is.
Could be YA2S4, YAG2S4,or YG2S4 depending which (incorrect) book you have a copy of!
Pity that BL buggered off back to UK and left stuff-all records for us.. :x

Sorry, couldn't resist.

If you can find any form of ID on the frame, vicroads should be able to tell you when the car was first registered. That's how mine was confirmed.
If you can't find any ID on it, there's not really any ways to get a promised answer to what year it is. Every part can tell a story. Whether it be the cars colour in a place that wasn't resprayed or a component that had a certain time run, to the dates on most electrical bits n pieces. It could be worked out, but will take some time.

God damn mini! The wiper motor doesnt have anything on it.
We changed the iginition switch cause it was stuffed and there was nothing on that either.
I will just try and get the engine number and chassis number and take it into Vic Roads see if they can solve the mystery
