hey guys,
ive got a bad knocking noise from aruond back of the block, seems to be around the cam area.
what do you guys reckon it is?
we just put the 1100 in, with new cam, cam followers, timing chain, and reco'd head, what do you reckon it could be?
at idle its a constant knocking noise, when throttle is applied the noise becomes irratic off-beat knocking. and is quite loud.
any help is appreciated.
cheers fellas
Blake

Is it like "an exhaust knocking against the chassis" kind of noise"?

I had a similar noise, it turned out to be the front exhaust mounting bolt.

If you put an RE13 or similar cam in, there may now be too much valve lift for the springs- check they are not closing up....

Maybe it could be the mechanical fuel pump (that is, if yours is a mechanical one) - its cam driven

I dunno, just a thought.

Sorry to sound so agricultural, but could this be your fan hitting its shroud?

If it sounds like a rattle more than a knock, check the harmonic balancer. I've just changed mine and the keyway was broken and the rubber in the S type harmonic was gone. It sounded like a tappet rattle but in my case, it was worse at idle (or the engine was masking the noise at revs!)
