This has been going on for decades Even though your car or one you are looking at appears great externally .
Beware If it has had accident damage there is a good chance of panel replacement
Now if the car was hit in rear Now your boot floor may have some bulges in it that they didnt worry about .
If your car had a hit to front they may put guards on and fail to fix the inners properly at the best point to do it.
So now the inners didnt get pulled and straightened but its all welded up now with new panels and they got away with it and its bloody hard to fix now properly
Bring back old school people that gave a rats

that is why i on the odd occasion i need work done will always go back to the one repairer that i know is old school.

Trying to be fair here...but it could also be just a straight out lack of knowledge in some cases...so if you find a Mini savvy repair shop...keep going back to them

mine has repairs from a hit at the rear and a replacement guard at the opposite front. not very well done from the amount of bog at the rear, inside the rail above the back window is only tacked in, and the panel gap on the replacement guard at the scuttle is atrocious.

BUT the alignment of the subframes is second to none. Greig at Mini Classic even said he could not get his race car to tolerances that mine had when he set it up. This is just as important as the cosmetics, maybe more so. I'll fix the looks one day

maybe you get what you pay for, or you should stipulate what you want, the inner panels can still be repaired after a new guard has been put on. Although the radiator side can be a bit difficult. The inner panels can be dressed up using a hammer and dolly then you can use a thin coat of polyester filler and rub back. When I fit a new guard the back of the guard has to be relieved about 4mm and taper off .Also I use an Inverter spot welder to weld on the guards and front apron, you can always tell if the panels have been put on with a MIG Welder.Don't stress any panel work can be fixed I have fixed many bad repairs in the past .

Yes its because you are old school and these would have been insurance jobs even back in the day .
I feel sorry for shops now when an assessor stipulates everything.
I know a bloke is very good He wont do work for a very well known insurance company.
My Clubbys driver side front inner guard has had hammer dolly and filler work
Yes im happy but would be easy when the guards off
