Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has bought wheel/tyre packages from UK recently & who is the cheapest around, particularly in regards to shipping.

Thanks for any tips.

Pete

Thank you gentlemen,

FYI I'm looking at 5x12 Minilites with Yoko A539 tyres.

Minisports package deal is a bit cheaper than Midlands, however at 600 odd GBP it is over the dreaded GST/customs threshold and I am loathe to give any more of my money to our politicians than I need to.

So I am considering shipping the wheels & tyres separately. In this case Midlands are a lot cheaper but need to see if the nuts & caps are extra.

Also, I noted on Midlands' site they say "cost of parts over A$1,000 (excluding freight) attracts GST. I believe the freight IS included for GST purposes, and any customs is then added after calculating it on the total cost.
Ned Kelly is still alive & well!

I didn't say this in public...but is it possible to split the shipment/purchase to make it fit below the threshold? or will Big Brother put 1 and 5 together

Unless you can't find the wheels and tyres locally where you are likely to get the best support, sign up to theminiforum and for 5 quid, you get a 7.5% discount off all orders at MiniSpares. This covers the shipping really.

Looking around, I have found tyres locally that are as cheap as the UK + delivery anyway

I think someone on here had a warranty issue with some Uk shipped tyres, they were out of round (Yokohama’s?) -gets a little tricky when you have bought from os. I’m not sure what the outcome was.

If you want A539s which are a great 12" tyre you will have to import them as Yokohama Australia pretend that they are no longer available here.
Edit apart from Mini Sport SA who get them from UK.

A539's on special with Minisport UK for $137 ea including freight. Their Oz namesake in Adelaide say they have them at about $187 ea delivered.
Nevertheless, I decided to go with UK's package deal (4 w & t incl caps & nuts) at $1,089 delivered. That's with Minilite rims.
After much number crunching, the freight on ordering separately exceeded the extra I will be up for in GST. You win some, lose some.
Thanks for all the useful suggestions.

Maybe a bit late now... but freight should not be included in calculations for GST/Customs Duty.

So as long as goods < $1000 you should be OK.

I brought in tyre/wheels package earlier this year and that was under $1000 for goods alone but over with shipping and no GST etc was applied.

What the story will be after the June changes ...???

OK, thanks, thats good to know.

Thanks to greedy people like Gerry Harvey (like, how many millions can you sensibly spend?) we will be up for 10% more on everything as from 1 July, PLUS a new customs levy of $7.00 per package, as announced yesterday.

Doesn't the duty get calculated on the declared value? I've bought things OS and the package usually has a 'value' or the like, writen on it.
Example. You buy diamond ring valued at $2000 on a no reserve auction, you get it for $5. Do you pay import on $2000 or $5?

Even though diamond rings are a girl's best friend, she would call you a cheapskate if you only paid $5.00 for it.

Almost bought via Huddersfield - heard good things - but didnt have tyres I wanted in the package..

So I went with John Brown Wheels who had larger tyre selection and prices not too different on wheels I chose.

Unfortunately can't see your images - so don't know what you are thinking about....
