The engine is from a Morris 1100 but unsure what the B stands for.

Didn't they change the numbering half way through? I'm without my Mini ID guide but I recall that the early Minis had UK numbers, then they put Aus numbers on later 850s - which were lower. Maybe they even repeated numbers, I don't know.

Y = Australia
M = Morris
G = Engine capacity between 1000-1399cc
S = Body 4 door
1 = Series of model

So that translates to an Australian Morris 1100 Deluxe.

10 = capacity of engine (1098)
Y = Australian manufacture
Ta = Std. ratio remote centre change
H = High compression

B = I don't know! THe book does not mention it.

So that translates to a Morris 1100 engine.

Dug out that book. From what I can tell, 850s from 4/61 to 7/63 had two numbers, the UK Complete Knock Down number (25262 through 175862) and the BMC Australia number (550 through 32000). Engine Numbers were normal though, 8AM/U/H 85866 - 509302. Maybe this can help explain why peoples numbers dont seem to match up?

I bought mine in Adelaide then drove it up here, when I went to register it the inspection station I took it too were going to knock it back because it didn't have a compliance plate, though I had the old rego papers and the body number matched (engine had been changed to a 1275 from a 998 and 8.4" discs put on). Luckily the mechanic needed me to fix his pc's so I pressured him into giving me the blueslip :wink: .
When I took it in to the transport dep to get the rego the girl needed to sight it and check the new engine number because it was different , then she wanted to see the compliance plate to which I said there wasn't one. She responded by telling me it was illegal to remove , I said it must have been removed by a previous owner. She checked the database and said it had one before but since it's not there now she'd just change it to missing :lol: Handed over the cash and got the platesand drove out :lol:

The body number and vin are/should be the same so that came off the radiator shroud, I'm pretty sure she just altered the db info to say the compliance plate was missing. I did have the old SA rego papers which had the Vin and it was the same as the one on the shroud.
