EVERYONE here knows about the Bermuda Triangle that exists within the engine compartment of every mini ever built.... It can consume ENDLESS amounts of 7/16, 1/2 and 9/16 spanners... never to be found again.

Unfortunately, you cant use this 'hidden toolkit' to add value to your car, so i have created a little device to help save the spanners.

Basically, i took an anti-static strap (a wrist band with a coiled wire attatched to it) and i secure it to to the free end of the spanner i am using. So when i accidently drop the spanner, its simply a case of lifting your hand up to pull the wire that will pull the spanner out...

Even if you cant see the spanner, the wire will lead you to it.

Good bye Bermuda Triangle!!!

Any other home made creations out there????

No tip on saving tools from the triangle but very please not having to work on a grass floor anymore. I also scored when Franks worked on Morris last time. A nice small flat screw driver that is perfect for the mixter scew on the HIFF44.
GGGGGoooooooaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllll :P

I can see why penises were mentioned... make one comment that can be slightly construed as a double entendre and you lot can't resist lol...

One trick I've learnt is to buy or beg an offcut of carpet to put on the garage floor. Most people think I'm weird, parking the mini on carpet, but when you realise how much time you spend lying down, reaching under, that concrete can get awfully wearing on the back. Plus, you can hear when the spanner drops out from the engine bay lol..

To keep his spanners in each group, my old man would grab an old Arc welding rod, and break all the flux off. He'd then bend one end to form a bit of a hook. and bend the other end round so that it caught in there. Slip all the spanners on and PRESTO.

might not be that easy to understand as I've written it, but once you see it done, it's bloody simple. Obviously this is only going to work on Ring or Combination spanners

EdIT.... Since I've been using a Tag system on our toolboards at work for the last 5 years, I've found that it really is the best way to control tool use. A pain in the butt at times having to get out from under the car for each tool, but shadow boards are effective. Instantly shows if there are any tools missing.

Ratchet Ring Spanners. The worlds greatest tool invention. and Snapon's little ratchetless drive bar and screwdriver tips.

GODDAMN, I hate Snap-on Catalogues. too much crap to sort through. Just took me 20 minutes to find what I was looking for, and I KNEW what it was LOL. Anyway, they call it an "Screwdriver, Right-angle ratcheting"

I believe this link should take you there:
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/pro_det.asp?tool=all&item_ID=6360&group_ID=11620&store=australia&dir=catalog
