well i got an engineer here today to give us a blue plate for the seats. they failed. The plates we made are welded to the floor as well as bolted to the floor with lock nuts and spring washers. now im told they have to have another plate under the car at every point and a double sized one in the tunnel where they are bolted in the middle..

while the guy was here he also saw that there is NO ENGINE NUMBER.. now we have to go to the cops and get a new one...i also cant see the body number. isnt it sposed to be on the radiator shroud? but ive got a new radiator dont i..... and now i cant find it.

sorry bout this but im just a bit dissapointed.

Getting a `Police engine number' is no prob, if the engine has never had one. If it's hot & number's been ground off, different story...

That body number is on top of the radiator `shroud' that's welded to the LH inner guard. Between radiator and LF wheel.
It's not on the 2 piece shroud that's screw to the rad.

If it's a roundnose car, the `real' body number is stamped into the firewall near the clutch MC.

is that on the plate there? or on the actual firewall?

oh man that sucks. good luck.

but what doc says, the eng number should be sweet and the number on
the shroud is attatched to the guard (the bit that pops out) and not the radiator so
it whould be therre under layers of paint! Good luck mate

If it got machined they might have kept a record, but I doubt it.
When getting blocks decked it's a good idea to tell them to miss the number during machining. Takes no effort for them to do this.

If car is pre-69 there's a plate on the firewall, it should have a body type & number, the same number is usually stamped into the firewall near the plate. This is the body number, not the one near the rad which is usually different- but often the RTA etc do use that one.

On Clubbies, or roundnose cars post late 69 with a VIN plate, that rad shroud one IS the same as the VIN number.

Confused???

Try the rego papers. (if that is the motor that its meant to be.)

You should have all VIN details on there... Or not.

a good machinist will deck a block but not machine the tab that the engine number is stamped into.

Most are lazy and just deck the whole face, including tab with engine number.

I don't have a body number on my car anywhere but I do have it on rego papers. Should I be worried?? do you need to have it located on the car?

If you have rego papers basicly you are OK as far as having muddled or missing engine numbers or chasis numbers, worst case is that you might have to get the RTA to have a look at it, if you have muddled or missing numbers and don't have any rego papers or proof that it has been registered at some point things become difficult, have a look at the documents available from the RTA's website it explains it in one of those....

All of this is subject to the reliability of my memory and my interpretation of the RTA docs so I suggest you look for yourself

I bet there's one on top of the rad shroud, under that shiny 2 pack red paint..
Barney just has the number from there on his papers...
