HI Mick
Have a good think about this, I have a copy of a record set by Pete Geoghegan at Castlereagh on the 2nd of july 1961,
Standing quarter mile in 18.675 seconds, for the750cc to1000cc. (CAMS record
How long had the 850 been out for? no trick gear box no special tuning bits, that's very fast for that time, cooper S times,
Well done big boy:)

Hi GR,

Yes, exciting days were those…

In his younger days, Big Pete, weren't so big (fortunately)...1959 was the launch of the shoebox in the UK, and we started seeing them in 1960-ish.

Pete certainly knew how to get the best out of any car, and Father Tom stressed the need for excellent preparation...a winning formula! 8)

Thanks Timmy, that may be for the first marketing of the 850, however, people were importing them before that...
