Hi there, new to this forum, and wanting to get into mini's, my question is: if all mini's are pre 2000 and only take take leaded fuel, what are owners doing nowdays to run their mini???

98 octane works ok. Some people like to add a lead substitute. Some use hardened valve seats. All depends on the amount of use and personal preference I suppose.

Not all minis pre-2000 were leaded. The cars built built somewhere around 88-90 were okay for unleaded from factory.
Lots of engines have also been rebuilt these days at some stage or another and were probably converted too.

Depending on the type of engine you choose 98 octane fuel can be a real waste. And a $16 (ish) bottle of Flashlube will treat 1000 litres of fuel should you not have hardened valve seats.

I find mine runs better on the 95RON than the 98 and I put a 20ml syringe in the tanks and works well. Oh to get my hands on some tetraethyl lead and see what happens...apart from a fine I suppose

I agree with 1071S . Engine compression is the main determinant of octane needs, which engine do you have?
