Thanks Doug. Forgot about that thread of yours. As I am in Brisbane, isn’t there a restriction on sending spray cans by mail/courier ?

Probably.

Be aware there were various shades of that paint over time. I've compared three Cooper S rocker covers with almost certainly original paint and they each differ slightly, maybe due to fading or maybe different when applied at the factory.

So searching for the "correct" colour is a bit futile, or at least taken in context, in my view.

A local paint shop at Hemmant, Brisbane made up 1 litre of engine paint for my Mark 2 in 2020 for <$40. They matched the colour to a sample of paint in a tin that I bought through Mini Kingdom over 20 years ago. They can supply the paint in a spray can if needed.

I do not think there is a 'correct original powerplant colour' after seeing the comments on this thread.

Members have added their opinions to this question of what colour they think is closest. But in the end, the best outcome from this discussion will provide members with a range of options to chose from. After all these years no "genuine" formula can replicate the 'real' colour.

Bill - I think you’ve misinterpreted what I said. I had the colour matched from the rocker cover so it is the correct 50 year faded colour for my car, and no doubt a batch of cars built around the same period.

I hope this discussion has helped the original poster, as it has helped me. Thanks.

This is the Valiant Tiffany Green colour That I use for my S engines as mentioned in a previous post. Painted in 2K with clear topcoat.

So is there a primer  on how to post pics??

I emailed myself the photos, copied the pictures, saved them as jpgs on my laptop then attached the files using the “choose files” option in the “reply” pane.

Any ideas as to what went wrong?

The photos show the original can and formula from the Dulux colour card. When I went back later for more paint, the old tinting system was no longer available. However, the guy (who paints national show winning street machines) eye matched the original paint. I still have both cans and the drips are identical (to my eyes).

IMHO that makes the colour as close as anyone’s ever going to get to the “proper” shade.....

Cheers, Ian

You have to click “choose” and then “add the file”
