Crystal White

The reason I asked was because I thought I could see 667 but that is listed as a Burgundy car

The colour under the white is the original undercoat.

There is such a simple way to read a stamped number even if there is only a small amount of the number visible

Allen - please explain for the Ausmini community your simple technique. This issue comes up often on our fifty year old cars so having a proven method will be a great help to Mini enthusiasts in identifying a vehicle for registration purposes.

Is it true that you only need the gutter numbers stamping to register Mk2 CS in NSW?

They should only register the car using the number stamped in the body, as the stamped number can’t be easily changed like an ID plate

That does not always work. I have two cars that have the same number as other (non-Mini) cars. The only way to make mine unique for the purposes of registration was to use the model type and car number on the rivetted plate on the bulkhead.

Agree with David:
I had exactly the same issue and result when getting my Mk1's body number corrected - RTA insisted on including the model number (YKG2S2) as part of the VIN because there were already other vehicles registered with the same 4 digit car number as mine.

A copy of the introduction to the Cooper S Register would be a worthwhile document to have in your hands when first talking to the registration authorities as it spells out all the identifying codes and locations. If you don’t have anything they will no doubt use whatever info they already have which has been shown to sometimes be an issue.

It will show the prefix for your car to be YG2S4 and that no ID or ADR plate was ever fitted at the factory.

If they select the correct Year and correct Model and use the correct Car/Chassis number then there should only be one vehicle with that combination. But some people want to register their Deluxe replica S a Cooper S and others get the year wrong and others use the body CUM number instead of the Car/chassis number. Then you have each state doing their own thing and when a car moves interstate the computer says NO
