Hello.
Mini enthusiast from Hobart,
I have 68 deluxe track car and a 69 k road car. Have owned many minis over the years.
Joined this forum in the hopes of getting some advice with fitting an after market walnut dash to the mini k which is currently 80% finished its do over.

Thought I'd come say hello her first.

Regards Chris

Welcome.
The old dash units just sat there with the dash rails holding them in. Not sure about new products tho'.

Hi I am in Launceston, if you were up this end of the island I could show you mine.
I have a Walnut dash fitted to my 1978 Van. It’s basically held in by long flat steel bars that clamp it to the top and bottom dash rails. Mine seems to have been fitted without much care as the drivers side bottom rail is hacked around to make it fit, and even then it’s not on square, it annoys the hell out of me. It’s on my todo list to take it off and plane the bottom edge so it’s sits right and then recover the bottom rail before I refit it.

Welcome Chris.

The search function is your friend on here. There’s decades worth of experience held in the forum archives.

A search on “wooden dash” shows lots of hits. A few of those should hopefully give you some fitting hints and images.

Keep asking questions as there’s lots of experienced Mini enthusiasts on board.

Cheers
Doug

In case it helps below is the page in the BMC accessory catalogue of the factory wooden dash and also the fitting instructions.

Thanks for the help and welcome.
The unit I purchased from UK.
it's quite nice to look at, different from the originals I'm sure.
I'm just finding it does not fit well, quite a big gap at either end and doesn't mould with the curve at all...
Advertisement stated it was specifically for early model without padded dash
Thought maybe someone here had installed a similar unit and had some ideas to amend the poor fit.
Regards Chris

Despite the description saying for early models, the one pictured is for a Mk3 + UK mini so if it looks like its picture it is for the later models. The fresh air vent holes are a dead giveaway.
I know this doesn't help but it may explain why it does not fit.
Also, given they are the only place selling these would suggest they are all the same ie for later minis.
