After running on BP Ultimate (98 RON) for the last 6 months or more, I filled up today with Mobil 8000 (98 RON) 'coz it was cheaper. I think it is going harder than usual... anybody else notice differences in fuels in their buzzbox?

And what do y'all run, anyhow? I NEED 98 octane as it's running 10.4:1 C/R. :P

<edit> and I stick some Flashlube in it, it works for me- I've seen inside the head already!

I run the BP Ultimate with a squirt of that Lucas Lead Replacer gear. I think my valves/guides are already screwed from running the Ultimate for 9 mths without any lead additives.

I'm developing a strong desire for some 1275 lovin' as well.

Never noticed differences, tried BP, Mobile and Shell. I always fill up with Shell though, cause I use those coles 4c a litre off.

I run Shell Optimax with flashlube, usually from my local servo (they don't add ethanol) and it seems pretty good. The reason I go with Shell originally is because they were the only people to state what lead substitute they used in LRP, back when I used it. Optimax is much better, but the price (up to $1.16) is not so good. Once when I was desperate I filled my float bowl with LRP to get my to the servo and it ran like a dog. Then again, a float bowl of fuel isn't very much!

Caltex premium with Nulon Octane Boost and Clean (about 100mls to a tank) :wink:

The compession on my motor is way up, and with the additive there is no run on or anything. :lol:

Took the head off my car after running with this combo for 12 months and the internal combution chamber was as clean as a wistle :!: :!:

Not as cheap as just the straight lead replacement though :x

Nulon also make a 'Pro strength octane boost', but i can't tell the difference in my little car :shock:

BP Ultimate seems to be the most stable of the 98 Octanes....
I tried the Mobil 8000 and it pinged its head off .....
14Psi and a hot day demand good octane..... I'm thinking of buying a drum of tolulene and mixing my own 105 Octane!

I tried some NOS octane booster in BP Ultimate 98, last trip to Wakefield Pk. The stuff was full of Valvemaster or similar, put brown crap all over the plugs, 2 weeks later they fouled in traffic. I put another set in and went back to Flashlube. That stuff burns clean!

BTW I think it runs better without the octane booster. Does run on a little though.

My wife is reading over my shoulder again and has mention she uses BP Ultimate and Morris notices the differace. Its not due to price but my wife has noticed the diferance. My wife ran out of fuel one day and went to the Carby place near Burwood bus depo and said it burns better and cleaner with out the build up. His second preferance was the shell Optimax. I may add my neigbeour Alen (Old Mini owner from the UK) has also mention the same thing.

What is the Flashlub :?: Running unleaded of course this end

Flashlube is a lead replacement additive. It was originally formulated for use in taxis running LPG, which is also a `dry' fuel (no lubricating properties). Unlike many other additives the plugs etc stay clean. It is not an octane booster.

1L will do 1,000 L of fuel and costs $16 retail at AutoBarn, Repco, etc.
Cap holds 7.5mL, so I put 1 cap per 7 or 8L of fuel, then tip fuel on top.

My son rooted the valve seats in his 1100 Clubbie in 6 months after a valve job, using straight unleaded. I got pics....

After 30,000 miles running Flashlube, mine just needed a wire brush and a quick lap of the exhausts. Beautiful... :wink:

What did you thing I would run- LRP shite?? Avgas? BP100? :?

It goes pretty well, considering... I'd say it's got 115HP at crank, not too bad for a road 1310. It will beat my mate's 1380, with 110 at crank on GR's dyno. :wink:

<edit> reason I run Flashlube is, the ex valves in the head are too big to fit inserts.. :P

LRP really but going by the comments recently Avgas LOL. I wish I had the money to add to the new 1275. I'll get the head P&P done but at this stage I'll wait for the cam and additionals done for Marcia :cry:

The cops defineatley frown at the use of tolulene as an aditive as well.......oh the smell as you cook it though a turbo. God I miss that :o
