Well, today I finally ripped the single HS4 off Barney, and put Baracade's old twin HS4s on him. 8)
Bling! is confined to the S/S heatshields and Ramflo filters. I'm not shiny anal like some people here... Gafmo??
So now under the bonnet he looks like a (Police pack) Cooper S- almost.
Except... it's a 1293 A+ block, and missing the S head stud & bolt, and it's a 1316 smog head anyway..

They've got CP4 needles in, similar to #6, feel a bit lean to me- we might just have to run him on the Vane dyno at Mini Classic and pick some richer ones... :P
Edit> He's OK until the 270* cam & Toyota rockers kick in at 3000 rpm..

ps I ran Ha-Ha on MiniClassic's rollers last Friday...
Power I got was about the same as GR's personal 1400 stroker..

I've had 'em for years- I got some payment for services rendered, in carbys!
I think we valued them at $250 back then. Worth silly money now- I think Mike got $400+ on eBay for a set of HS2s!

How do you tell what type of carbs you have? HS2/4, HIF44/38, etc?

what sort of benefits do twin carbys have over the single? oobvioulsy more fuel into the system so its gonna go faster yeah? but how much of a bastard is it to have them linked up or whatever you have to do to them?

Compared to a single SU, twins give better torque. And on a decent manifold (not a BMC one) thay DO give more power than a big single SU.
LH/RH ones come with linkages already, pretty easy to adjust and they do stay in tune- provided the shafts etc are not worn bad.

And of course they look `the business'- all the Coopers had them. Must be good...

It's going OK now... but it's not a rocket like my 1360 is.
Need to fiddle with different needles a bit. Wonder what the ign timing is too...

They aren't needed.

I have a Brickworx Racing special on mine.

I think its been blocked, but still has the tube on it.

I took it off. 8)
Cooper S never had 'em. Neither did Alfas, Fiat twin cams, etc.
All they really are is an `economy device' that gives more advance at part throttle. When you nail it, the vac advance drops back to zero. It's supposed to...... anyhow
I might refit it later, after I suss out the ign timing. Right now I have NFI what it's set at.

Gaf,
It's actually not going too bad now, after I balanced the carbs and screwed the jets down a bit, and a bit, and a bit more...
