Buy another Mini for under $3K that don't have much rust....you may have to go over the other side of the Adelaide Hills to find one of those

Sell what you have either whole or in bits if you have the room to spare....get advice on how much you should charge for the bits....

good luck....

Where the hell are all your people's heads at?

If this one gets destroyed, and many more people do the same in the next few years, minis will indeed become very rare to find a good condition one, so later on, the person will be buying a crappier shell for the same price and will have to spend lots more money on getting it fixed.

Jeez why don't you think what it will be like in the FUTURE you selfish, selfish people.

Jeeez

If you have rust in more than 2 seams, in your doors, in your roof, maybe floor too...... 3 grand is a good deal (if that includes repainting)

I am expecting to pay $700 for only 50mm of rust repair and repainting that A-pillar on my 97 Mazda....

Who's going to subsidise this owner to keep her car on the road? I know what you're saying, and agree to a point. But the parts on her car (as it stands now) can be recycled apart from the shell. It's called attrition and once a car gets terminal rust, it gets very expensive, unless you have room in your driveway and the tools to repair them.
I have two clubmen which I've "saved" and are awaiting room in the intensive care unit, but I don't think British Leyland are going to drop by with parts - for normal people, economics play a part. For $3K, you can buy a perfectly servicable mini which will run for at least another decade, and the parts from hers may allow 10 others to keep going.

Sometimes you just have to let go.

i agree, theres no holes going through anywhere, and the floorpan is solid.. the issue is cosmetic, shop around and get plenty of quotes

oh Supercharged850, the 3k does NOT include a respray, thats 2.5k more
the rust is only cosmetic, no rust in the floors or anything. but yes the side seams have some, and around the bottom has a fair bit. since i paid $1250 for the car, 3k sounds like a lot to fix it hehe

$5.5k for rust repair and a respray does seem like a lot.. But if everythign else is all running/working fine, then I guess spending $6.75k on a mini with everything happening is alright! Although I'm pretty sure you can get a very nice clubby for less then that.. actually yeh come to think of it, im sure you can get a nice clubby with everything done already for around $5.5k

There was someone else on ausmini a couple of weeks ago that got a quote for $4000 to get the rust cut out.. Maby if you take some pics of the rust and post them up we could give you a better idea on what to do??
