Does anyone know what the part number is for a K&N vent filter for a standard clubman tappet cover breather filter is? Something like this:

(I work down at revolution rcegrear in the gong off and on but am there at least 1 day a week)

Chong, a filter on there may stop bugs getting in- but the air (& oil fumes)flow is outwards!

But if you are going to fit a PCV valve to the manifold, (as you told me) connected to the side cover canister- forget about using a filter on the rocker cover breather. It'll suck air thru the system and run lean..
Just plug it like mine is.

Hmmm... At the moment, my crankcase breather doesn't have one of these filters on it (though I was thinking of getting one), but it's just got a rubber hose on it leading behind the radiator, wehere andy fumes get blown out by the radiator fan. That was how Cono at Minicraft set it up...

Previously, it had a PCV valve coming from the crankcase breather, going into the carby, but Cono removed it when I had the engine rebuilt. I can only think that he did this becasue it wasn't a good idea. It wasn't my idea orignally though, I bought it like that.

Doc, what do you reckon is the best thing to do with the crankcase breather? You seem against the filter idea...

Doc and I have been discussing this very topic this morning. I think I will give Vizard's Evacusump system a try. This means plugging up the rocker cover breather and plumbing the tappet cover breather into a PCV valve connected to both intake manifolds (actually Vizard says it's best from the exhaust manifold, but intake is ok too, and is much easier to do).

Anyway what this does is creates a negative pressure in the crank case which is good for rings etc (you have to read Vizard). Will let you know how it goes...

Vizard's system does both with a anti back fire valve thingy in the exhaust, Idea was that the exhaust supplies vacumn when there is no vacumn at the inlet manifold and vise versa It also had a oil trap and return thingy some where there too. Oil return must be above the oil level in the sump otherwise you suck the oil outa the engine It sounded like a good idea and apparantly really helped the mini's oil leak issue. I can't remember more about it might have to read it again

Yeah I just read it all last night. The tappet cover breather has an oil/air separator built in (the standard long tube thing) so no problems there. Hence why I am connecting it via the tappet cover breather into the intake manifold, if you did it as the book says via the rocker cover breather, I will need to install a separate oil separator.

Exhaust or Intake, both create a vacuum right? This is how Lillee's engine was set up for over a year with a PCV to one side of the intake. This time I will custom hook up both sides of the intake for even air on both sides. Should look pretty good as I have some ideas

Yep both make vacumn but at different times, I can't quite remember but I think it is under part throttle there is inlet vacumn but little or no exhaust vacumn as there is less exhaust flow. At full throttle there is high exhaust speeds which creates a vacumn from the exhaust part of the system, I can't quite remember though

That Evacusump setup kinda sounds like what I had, though I don't think that my rocker cover was plugged up properly, though it was blocked a little. I might read more into this... Very interesting.
