There is NO right or wrong way. Yours is just `different' is all. If ign timing is right, dizzy body can be 180* out of position, won't matter. Ditto the plug leads...

Dog is on right way, maybe drive gear is in a bit different position. As said, DOESN'T F'IN MATTER!!
Won't affect starting Chong, ign timing is correct.

<edit> hole in Pulsar dizzy shaft (already there) is in a slightly different spot to a Lucas, so if you don't move the drive gear shaft rpound a tooth or 2 the dizzy body points as Chong's does. Doesn't matter a stuff. 8)

hey kevn, can you get me a DR85 (if my numbers are correct) dizzy as im struggling to get anything like it over here and have nly found a few 83's but according to you this is only good for the small bore motors.
none of mine are small bore anymore come to think of it the smallest i have is 1360cc and they go up from there 1380, 1430 gees where to next.
Just i blew my pertronix up and cant be arsed to buy another one to put into my modded dizzy if this will work better than im smiling all the way.
let me know
and what you want for it.

Jai, I'll keep an eye out for a D4R85.
I need to go find another for our 1132 Clubbie anyway.

Actually the 83 is not bad in a 1275 or bigger, if you just build up the stop to reduce the advance a bit.

Speaking of which... I think Lillee needs more advance... She's VERY hard to start cold and still hard to start when hot. There's plent of power after 2500rpm (she goes NUTS all the way to about 5500rpm :D Warp 4 baby! after that power starts to drop off) but I can't help thinking that the timing is not right...

Other than that, BOY Lillee's a pocket rocket! totally different car, she so wants to rev... the Dellorto really eggs me on  "Go on you know you want to floor me and engage warp drive" it says  :P

The sound of the intake has increased about 20 decibells too  and the exhaust is now a very low rumble. Amazing what larger valves and ports do!

OK, time to shelve the 1360 plans just for the meanwhile   She's heaps fun as is 8)

not bad for a cylinder head.
wait till you get her out into the shows and you will get more views.
motor could be too far advanced and needs retarding a bit. you will have to check or loosen and try the twistie method back a bit or forward a bit if you dont have a light to check.

So if it's hard to start then it's too advanced?? I thought it was the other way around?

If too far advanced it will stall the starter. If you keep doing this trick you will break starter pinions (I have 4 dead ones now...)

Retard it until it doesn't quite kick back, that is pretty close.

To get it right use a strobe light and set a `max advance' point on the pulley. Rev up to 4,000+ and check. 30* max advance is a good starting point.

If running a Weber or Dellorto, don't bother hooking the vac advance up- there's nowhere to connect to. 8)
