I had better introduce myself before I cause trouble, My name is Michael and I live in Goulburn NSW and I have been playing with Minis (and other BMC products) since I was in high school in the late 70s.
My current fleet is.....
1966 Morris 1100
1968 Morris 1100 Auto
1968 Morris Cooper S
1978 Leyland 1275LS
1984 Austin Montego 1.3l
As well as a few other non BMC/Leyland toys.

A couple of people here may know me from alt.autos.mini where I used to post
and a couple of people may know me from 10-tenths motorspot forum where I still post
and one bloke here knows me from Atlas F1 where I also post.

I hope to have a good time posting on this forum.

Michael

I am sure that the Austin Montego is the source of the envy

Now the real story......

My 68 Cooper S I bought in 1980 (or was it 81?) from an old bloke up the Blue Mountains, (where I grew up) it had been parked in a garage when the 1977 bushfires came through and set fire to the garage, the fire brigade broke open the doors of the garage, smashed the windscreen and pushed the car from the burning garage, saving it from the fire although the paint did suffer from the heat of the fire. It was then pushed back where the garage had been and sat for a few years without a windscreen and without a speedo and it also had no airfilters!

I set in and rebuilt the motor and used it in motorkhanas for most of the 80s and last run it in about 1990. It still runs but it is need of a full restoration.

So I bought it in 1980 with the intention of restoring it and it may happen one day!

They were told that there was a very valuable car in the garage, they must have thought it was behind the Cooper!

The doors of the Cooper were locked and the garage was on fire so they went straight through the windscreen! (Lucky it didn't have the laminated screen)

Well done the Firies!!! Hope someone bought them a beer and entered them in the Mini Hall of Fame! :D

if you had seen some of the devastation down here as a result of the fires it would make you cry. Engines where all the alloy bits just melted and dribbled down to the floor (after the generator feel off the engine for example). Plastic Fans! pffttt!. There was one case where a poor Alfa R owner lost his pride and joy, but get this, the spares tyre and mag in the boot, ended up as a small silver blob beneath the car after the alloy just melted through the drain hole in the boot!
