You could always have it chemically cleaned and crack tested, it may be good!

Definatly take it to an engine reconditioner to get an expert to look at it in the flesh.

ok guys the photo doesnt really do it justice the head is alright no hairline fractures or ne thing of the sort its the valve seats that are really damaged ill take some more photos of the valve seats tonight so you can get a true indication of what we are talking about here plus the other guys are right, i could get the same head in better condition for less than a tube of toothpaste so i might just turn it into a very attractive door stop in the garage
cheers stev

GO THE GARNER

Don't worry if the exhaust valve seats are damaged. When you get the head reco'd, get hardened exhaust seats put in, which will allow you to run it on unleaded with no need for an additive like flashlube.

Depends on your budget on what you do. I mean, if you can afford it, put a better breathing head like the 12G202 on, if not, just get the one you have reco'd.

Seriously if you are going to get the valve seats done and new guides put in then you are best to start with a 12G202 or 295.

Mine even comes with double valve springs! the seats are fine but you will need new guides (they are slightly worn and leak oil overnight). Straight off my car, working condition. Will swap for a slab of Hahn Premium or Crownies 8) You can pay for postage if you like... You won'r get a better offer than that!

Around $140, I think.
J_A_M and kazjim would know, they just got theirs done.

You would want 4 new ex valves too @ $19.35 each, for your head. Ones for early heads are even cheaper...

Sure... but the C/R will be lower. I usually mill 1.5mm at least off them to fix that.
Even if you don't, it's worth a coupla HP over the old 998 one.

Seriously Coop, 12G202 heads are really dime a dozen. I am sure if you look hard enough and ask enough questions you will find one down in Vic for $50...

I couldn't be bothered posting it, it must be at least 25kgs :?
