Maybe the officer in question was on Ausmini ( well isnt everbody) when someone who shall remain nameless put up posts about some frog  , and that officer saw the signature below the post and when the same car came in for its rego check he will teach him a lesson  !!

Maybe we can get the Mythbusters team to check this myth out :)  PLAUSABLE

while there at it they can check out the "big willie" myth too
THAT MYTH ........BUSTED!!

For all those on the eastern seaboard, SA does not have annual Rego checks done by a wide selection of local mechanics [some of whom seam to be more "reasonable" than others, with you the car owner having a choice of where to get the inspection done, go see my mate over here wink wink.]

This situation leads to all the jokes about "anything goes" here in SA. This is about right with vehicles UNTIL YOU GET CAUGHT! - then all hell breaks loose.

You see as little willy has pointed out there is only one single, solitary, government run, gestapo staffed inspection point in the entire state. It's called Regency, and it is managed by Hitler's mother-in-law with a bad case of PMT. They go over the entire car every time no matter what it was defected for. Every time, no matter what, no exceptions, bend over and squeel like a pig. Oh and they charge like wounded bulls of course.

So this is the other side of the coin about the easy rego laws in SA

Bottom line - in this state you don't want to have to go any where near this place if you can avoid it [staying out of trouble is a good way to avoid it  ]

Oh Little willy - you poor bastard - what goes around comes around.

Agreed Mike tha's the way it should be, but over here it's half a day and the car has to be "perfect" to pass

if it's as bad as WhoDat says, then why the hell would you go and put air horns and other stupid illegal accessories on that will only end up costing you mega $$$$ when it comes to being defected? seems pretty stupid imho.

Who thinks this is funny? karma bites you right on the arse. Why does'nt australia have a nationalised rego system? God only knows why.

Of course its bloody funny.
Its not the end of the world.

crap happens, and as with most things, i don't care.
Its only time that i've been robbed of.
And no more inconvenient than anything else that takes time.

you weren't robbed william, you were driving an illegal car and got caught. simple fact. keep your car legal and you won't have a problem.
