I NEED SOME HELP..! I am either clueless or missing something.

I have been told that my Mini has had "the positive/negative electricals conversion" but now it has decided to go up in smoke. So I have been provided with some wiring diagrams (thanks excops) but they all seem to show the battery negatively ground...

SO... Does this mean my 1968 Deluxe wasnt a positive ground anyway? Is it possible to positively ground a battery? Am I completely missing something here?

If I now want to replace this wiring myself, is it a matter of stripping the dash etc, buying wiring that is the same guage as whats in there and matching it up?

if the positive connection of the battery is connected to the body of ur mini urs is positively earthed
and if the negative connection of the battery is connected to the body ur mini is negatively earthed (the modern way).

sorry trying to summarise too quickly.

The battery is negatively earthed so I presume that the conversion has already been done, but after a slight electrical fire, my wiring has now burnt out. I cant work out whether its just a matter of following the old wires with new or if the conversion has been done wrongly hence the fire. If it has been done wrong, is it OK to follow the wiring diagram that I have been given?

850pvan is correct. I belive you have a wire that has been shorted under the bash prior to your conversion to Neg earth. It does not always show up straight away, mainly due you will do a short trip to test it. If you need help one of us of an auto electrision will have to have a close look at it. Otherwise you may have to get a new Loom and replace the old one. Try not to rip out the old one till you get a new one and lable every wire that you disconect and you recieve.
I intented to replace Marcia's Loom also but I'm waiting for the new engine to arrive and check all the suspention first . If I had time this weekend I'd have a look but possible during the week

Can offer only the standard harness to suit 1968 Cooper S Mk.1, which is fitted with a generator, gauges as original, priced at $409.20 (incl GST), catalogue item MN688/1, and the harness is covered with cotton overbraiding.
Same basic loom with outer covering of pvc tape is MN688/2 and costs $369.60 (incl.GST).
Your decision as to which version you require. Also add postage costs of $9 to $16 depending on where you are.
