Stick a pencil down the bore..
Then, take the rocker cover off, check the valves on #1 and #4. You want the 2 valves on #4 to be tight, that means its TDC firing on #1.
If valves on #1 are tight, turn the motor over 1 full turn.

How do I know if it is set for Max Power?

Keep advancing the timing a little at a time, and check how it goes. If motor gets rough, or pings, or kicks back badly on starting you have gone too far.
You need a strobe timing light to do this properly. I set mine at the maximum advance point by revving it to 4000+ (no vac advance used) and check wher it is. Most A series like around 30-34* full advance. I won't tell you what mine likes, but it's more...
I have marked my harmonic balancer pulley and the timing cover- it's easier than peering into the flywheel access hole.

Take off the rocker cover and check that when the rotor points to #1, it is about TDC and both #4's valves have zero clearance.
If you get it started but it won't rev, it is way retarded- turn dizzy clockwise a bit.
You will need a strobe timing light to time it properly.

when hooking up the coil with the pulsar distributor is the - terminal of the coil grounded or does that happen thru the dustributors electronics

Just uses the 2 wires from the dizzy. Blue is <-> . Ditch the little suppression condenser if still there, you don't need it.

NOTE: fit it so the rotor's brass strip is pointing at 1 o'clock, and the `drive key' is below centre of Mini drive dog.

Okies, any pictures of this? I'm not sure which way I fitted mine, will this cause problems?. Also, can someone get me a diagram to show the leads (which is 1,2,3 & 4). My leads are marked, but no idea if they go 1.2.3.4. along the block or 1.3.4.2 like the Mini's firing order.

OK, but what about the drive dog? What will that effect if I have it 180* out? Will that mean I just need to rotate the engine 180*??

Not sure what you mean. Remove pin and rotate then reinsert pin? Or just take dissy out, then rotate the dissy shaft 180? If the latter, won't that not fit because one side it larger, the drive pin thingy is offset??
