Screw the aesthetics... i suggest you guys get yourself one of the ones with the light sensing LCD windows. What they are is a helmet where the window you look through is clear until the bright light is sensed and then it switches dark within fractions of a second to protect your eyes. It is so much easier to use a helmet like this because you can see everything you are doing as well as protecting your eysight.

There are ones like what I'm talking about on here. Plus there's some more cool funky looking ones down the page.

Check the link , those masks can take the same lense you're talking about, and yes I love the auto dark lenses too

I've got a cheap auto darkening helmet and don't like it that much.

My eyes feel funny if I use it for long. I don't think it senses quickly enough. I only use it when I need to use both hands on the job (i.e. usually just tacking)

It is worse when you are welding panels, because you are doing lots of short bursts.

I still like the traditional flip front. At least when it is closed, I know my eyes are safe.

I got an auto darkening filter for my cheap helmet and it works remarkably well. I'm sure my welds are cleaner and neater as it's easier to start and one fewer thing to think about.

Now if they could make auto-sensing ear muffs, I'd wear both permanently. Auto-sensing gloves? Auto-lenthening overalls? Auto-changing underpants? Ah, the future's bright

Hey Zizzle in my years of welding I have seen welders with real faces looking like that....

They do make them, I use them at work.
