On top of barrels, near the mixture adjusters, it sez Dellorto on one and 45DHLA on the other. Any letters after DHLA?

Oh good, mine has no extra letters either. I found out one of the cons/differences with a Dell'orto today. With an SU, a bit of dirt may cause a sticking piston. Dell'ortos are more a case of a blocked jet. I couldn't figure out why the car all of a sudden began to run like a dog, but only on the idle jets. After a while it fixed itself up so all I can assume is that the idle jets got some crap in them. The fuel filter is up for replacement, it is only a Ryco plastic job.

And if you want to know a benefit of Dell'ortos? They don't ice up like a bastard, like my SU. My SU was getting so bad in the mornings, sometimes it would merrily plug along at 4000rpm with your foot off throttle, or refuse to idle. Once it was so bad I had to pull over. Found water absolutely pouring off my carb!

The Ryco filters are OK, but don't flow too well at low fuel pressure. I use a Purolator glass one, 5/16" pipe size. Whenever the plastic element discolours, I fling it out and drop in a new element. They come in packs of 4? 6? I canna remember.... Anyway you don't buy the whole filter, just the elements.

Dellorto is bloody reliable. I put a kit in it 8 or 9 years ago, did nothing to it since apart from change filter a few times and (lately) play with the jets.
After I drop the 36 chokes in place of the 34s, I gotta play with 'em again. But it's fun... :P

Yeah I have a 5/16 glass filter sitting here but it needs a new element. I have only seen one piece filters for them, and mine has two, but smaller. Maybe I can buy one and cut it in half

Yeah what happened to me today was really odd, but then I only stuck the carb on a week ago, and just put a different Facet fuel pump on as well, there is likely to be teething problems.

Maybe an old model. Just buy a new one.

I'm running 30mm chokes, 130 mains, 180 air correctors, 50 idle jets and 50 pump jets, with no. 6 emulsions. From my research on the net and also Vizard (I also have a copy of Hammill's PT Dellortos book on order) that is at least in the ball park for my car.

I think it needs bigger idle jets (55) and I might put 45 pump jets in (50 might be too big). Although both pump jets flow, one seems to me to flow more, even though they are both 50s. Might get news ones so I know they are good.

Vizard also recommends no. 5 emulsion tubes, but I think I should leave that part up to the dyno tune guys, which I intend taking the car to when I get a proper inlet manifold and air filter.

I doubt you need 55 idle jets in a 1098. I'm running 50s in my 45 DHLA on a 1310....

<edit> re the pump jets- they do block up easy if crap gets in there. Soak in degreaser and back-blow with air- don't things poke in 'em...

Hammill recommends (for a 40DHLA on a 998- I think 1098 not much different)
chokes 32mm
idle jets 52
main jets 144
emulsion tubes 7772.5
air correctors 180
aux venturis 8011.1

alternative
chokes 33mm (stock size in an Alfa 2.0L carb)
idle jets 54
main jets 148
emulsion tubes 7772.5
air correctors 180
aux venturis 8011.1

Yeah I soaked them in some carb cleaner and blew them out with some compressed air. I think one of them was completely blocked and that fixed it, but I'm still not so sure they both flow evenly.

Hmm, Hammill's recommendations are different to other ones I have seen, but then again I am working off 30mm chokes so that makes a difference to the jetting. I was advised to go down a choke size on Vizard's recommendations, especially if my car isn't being tuned for out-and-out performance.

Just finished putting the 36mm chokes into my 45 Dellorto. Tried the 150 mains and 170 airs it had in already, went OK but a little hesitant on upshifts.
Went to 155 mains, then 160 mains (and 170 airs), it's real sweet now.

More power now from 6000-8000, it's still just as good elsewhere as the 34s were. :P
<edit> watch out, kazjim.... 8)

Hey Doc for a 1275 would a 40DCOE or a 40DHLA be still better than twin HS2s? I mean its not a 45 but should it give more than the twin 1 1/4 SUs?

Yeah a 40 is better than a pair of HS2s, IMO. Stick 34mm chokes in it....

I guess you know they are NOISY.... :P
