I've had a few quotes from people to do a full respray job and the cheapest I got was $1500 but for a full bare metal lifetime guarentee the cheapest I got was$5000 but the paint I picked wasn't the cheapest. For interior the average price for cloth retrim was $1500 and with the other mechanical stuff I've had done my total would be around the $1500 mark but it all comes down to how far you want to go. :D

I figure it's not what you know, it's who you know so I'm having alot of work done 'on the side'

Though it will be interesting to see at the end how much I did infact spend :?

I paid $5k for the mini with the engine already pretty much done and front discs (8.4's) so far I've only had to get 2 new tyres, a pair of rear slaves and rear & front brake hoses, an electric fuel pump and a set of custom made flares. As far as budgets it's simple, when I have enough saved to do something I throw it at the mini
To do list:
Pull the motor and pull the gearbox to repair the sump hole thread.
Check and replace worn parts in the box while she's out.
Paint motor and bay at the same time.
Bore to 1330 and fit oversize pistons.
Replace twin 1.25 SUs with a Weber
Swap starter motor to a gemini one.
Redo the electronic ignition (the kit that's in it isn't the best)
Make and fit a custom dash with magnolia guages
Retrim interior and remount/retrim seats.
Finally a respray.
By my estimates it should cost me about another 2-3k if I do the majority of the work myself, the final spray will be done by a pro in 2 pak but I intend to do the prep work. It's labor costs that kill most restore jobs, if you do alot of it yourself you can save a small fortune. I just wish I had a garage instead of a lousy carport

Mk1 Cooper S $8,000 fully restored from a write off
Mk2 Cooper S $3,000 body work done & painted i have nearly everything to put it back together.
Wife's 1971 clubman, bought it for $900, sold $870 worth of parts of it, then restored it cost just over $3,000
Panel van, waiting to get painted now, then just needs to be put back together, i estimate about $3000. I do ALL the work myself apart from painting.

Restorations can bea cheap or as expensive as you want them to be.

year.. It is easy to spend lots and lots. but you can still do things cheep and good. my clubby/re shelled GT finished cost of 4800ish with rego. and that was full rebuild.

and evil has cost 9k+ so far and its got at least 11K to go before I think it may be close to done.

Well................... my original budget was for that amount........ it's now gone well past 20k and will climb further with the issues regarding the engine..........

You going to do most of the work yourself marc?

Yup...I set a budget of $15K, but it will end up costing around $20-25K. :(

Still, I would rather spend $25K on a Mini than on some POS modern small car or 2nd hand medium-large car.
