top stuff Gaf - that S motor was a tuff little bugger, but he was starting to show signs of age and I didn't want anything to wear past easy repair, hadn't been rebuilt since around 1981-82 I think... I'd be surprised if the cam has a standard profile the head had some monster port work done to it, you might be surprised what you find if you got it measured

coupla pics for ya ;)

I measured the crank, the pins (-.010") are fine but main journals (-.030") have about 1/2 a thou wear. Might polish out, we'll ask Spiro at St George Cranks.
At least it's not cracked....

Still do date not sure what colour the Cooper S motor will be. I'll see how it comes up after a good clean and all...Maybe just a heat resistant clear coat

Talk to GR he says the cheapest source of NEW S cranks is MiniSpares UK.
Anyhow pray a bit- the old crank didn't sound too bad to me!
If it IS cracked, PM minicranks and he can bring or send a big journal 12G1505 over, then Spiro can stroke it.
Make sure it's crack tested in NZ first though!

from Minispares site-

CRANKSHAFT 81.3 STROKE EN40B STEEL "S"CRANK heat treated

Price ?750.00 exc vat
?881.25 inc vat

For: Classic Mini
Part No. C-AEG479

Description

Nitrided, 81.33mm stroke, cross drilled, 1.625" "S" big end journal for 1275 S block.
Forged EN40B steel nitrided cranks are considered the ultimate in specification, even over the "billet" type. This is mainly because the grain pattern of a forging follows the shape of the webs and bearings whereas the billet type is machined across the grain. We stock all the forged types as well as re-stroked standard material cranks and new cranks. Heated for maximum durability. these are machined to fit mains width of the Cooper S block only.
