I'll go against the tide here - Keep it, modify it sympathetically (nothing that can't be undone, no cutting or removal of bodywork, and keep all the original stuff)) then enjoy it. You'll have it on the road far sooner than having to rebuild a basket case and the cost will probably work out much the same. The value will be still be there when you come to sell it down the track either with or without the modifications.
Sometimes that track can be bloody though, who knows how long you're going to keep it, and it's your car, not a priceless piece of automotive heritage. It was built to perform a function and if it can do that better by running twin carbs or 12" wheels then go for it.
