I just bought these:

Jaeger speedo & tacho. Old school. It's hard to find a revcounter that doesn't assume you can rev to 13,000rpm. I like ones that I can use at least half of the range of the gauge...

Well personally I guess it just depends on what kind of look you are looking for and each to their own as the saying goes.

But there is nothing worse in my opinion at standing back from a distance and admiring a nice Morris or Clubman Mini that has had dollars spent on it to restore it or bring it up like new. Then when you have a closer look inside of the car you see all these horrible modern autometer and other types of guages in it. Just takes away that original feeling and I dont understand why people put these kind of guages in Minis when Smiths guages can still be brought from places like flea markets, eBay and in the UK..

I mean makes no sense to me to spend so much money on a Mini then to spoil it by putting in these other rice (as people put them) guages in.

BTW LG started out as Goldstar (low end products) then they change to LG (Lucky Goldstar) and to this day refer to being Life's Good..

But life isnt too good when your six head VCR craps itself two weeks out of warranty and your 68cm Flatron TV develops a big blue twinge color in the top right hand corner when it gets warm one week out of warranty...

Yet the funny thing is the first VCR I ever brought was a Goldstar and 18 years down the track its still going strong.

some thing to think about:
I have a smiths tacho (old school) and from what I remember they can't be used for high energy ignition systems. fries them as they are not a pulse tacho.

There is a bloke in newcastle that services gauges and he says he can convert them.

I think youre reffering to the older "loop pickup" smiths tachos, which can't be used with electronic ignition systems.

Oh and Smiths did start somewhere, but not as the LG of their times. They were a respected manufacturer of precission clockwork and instruments for decades before cars appeared.

Smiths made a lot of other stuff too. Car heaters, & KLG spark plugs for example.
