Ryan maybe its time to deal with real problems - plus how do you know "think" that its 50? I mean depending on the road, weather, surrondings etc there's no way you can "just know". But in general speedos are made to show higher speed than actual, this is to compensate for their tendency to show lower speed as the speedo gets older and looses magnetic qualities.

after driving for so long - u'll know how fast ure goin without really looking at the meter - i have also tested the car by gettin me mate to drive a holden beside my mini and yes!

its showing 60 when im only doin around 50 - more than often i have to accelerate till 65?or around 70 in the 60 zones!

So Doc the voltage stabilizer is 10 volt? I hear/read a lot about how the stabilizer gives grief so it sounds like an electronic regulator is in order. As electronics is my other hobby I can get "samples" from manufacturers so it shouldn't be hard to fit. Any idea of the current drawn?

Any takers for a freebie?

David L

EDIT: Just checked the data sheets - no descrete 10 volt regulator so some "building" will be required but shouldn't be more than a couple of dollars

i cleaned the ramflo airfilter not long ago, but i had the problem before hand.. it also has full on flat spots like i put my foot down and it feels like its flooding then it gets rid of that and starts to pull... im gonna prolly get it tuned but at the same time i cant be bothered coz there's a 1275 and twin HS2's that i'm sourcing around to get at the moment, so a tune is kinda pointless. :x  :?

OK, so in this new world of Electronic Speedo Senders, why the hell are the damn things out. Some of the car magazines when reviewing new cars had indicated/actual readings from the speedo and they were out by up to 10%

EDIT.......... The voltage regulator on the back of the speedo (inclubman's anyway) are the little rectangular metal box. This comes straight off the PCB. If you get the case off(a real PITA), then you will see an armature like ingnition points. The contacts in here are what stuff up. There is an adjustment screw on there, but I would advise NOT messing with it, unless you really want to.

Doug Lawson on MiniPortal made some electronic ones too. The stock stabilizer is 1950 technology- basically a vibrator like in old valve car radios.
No I guess the kiddies have never seen one...

In the 60's one UK auto reviewer called it "publicity department cogs in the dash instrumentation".[/quote]
