Well... just got home from the movies... almost trouble free! Almost meaning 2 corners from home, all of a sudden my car is REALLY LOUD! I thought, damn, blown a hole in the muffler, but that was before I hear scraping sound! It fell off the front at the LCB's. Got in the drive, just, grabbed some spanners and dropped it off at the back.

Didn't see any damage to the car, but we'll wait til morning. Fingers crossed!

looks very clean and even, did you have each pip clamped only and not welded. They may have sliped of with time.

Dam shame and some early morning work

The hose clamps are not my fault! The zorst hasn't been touched since I got the car. They shoudln't be welded on, should they?

Hose clamps??? you're just asking for trouble....

You can always get a braided flex pipe, welded on between the LCB and the straight pipe... they are pretty reliable..

I see am exhaust 'U' clamp next to the spanners. If that is what you are calling hose clamps, then they are the right clamps in my opinion. I think if you weld your system all the way through you could expect the pipe to break at the weld or you will have a really crap time trying to get it out for maintenance or repairs.

You must have a lumpy cam that vibrated the nuts loose....

Ha ha I know that feeling all too well! On my system the bolt fell out of the front mount (where it bolts onto the gearbox). I was wondering why I had a slight exhaust leak. One day pulling out of the local servo I gave it a flooring and when I slammed it into second 'slight' was no longer the correct description of the exhaust leak. The pipe had fallen down, still attached vaguely (ie not dragging on the ground). Very LOUD! Funnily enough, I kept going, and when I slammed it into third it fixed itself and went quiet again. The people at the side of the road looked somewhat confused.

Got home, stuck in another bolt and made sure it was tight with a spring washer (I'm always forgetting those - it's no wonder the bolts come loose!)

Anto.

The U clamp was the one at the back.

It goes into Lukey tomorrow, they recon they have had a few in the past with the same problem. So I guess they'll fix it properly.

thats one benefit of the Maniflow LCB's. The primaries go right down underneath the car, and the collector connects horzontally, so there's no way it could ever fall off... They're very well made and nice looking too and not that much more money (cost me $300 including the collector), so I'd recommend them to anyone wanting to buy a new set of LCB's...
My brother's system on his Clubman GT did the same as yours (fell off) while someone was looking at his car to buy it. They arrived while he was changing the plugs coz it wouldn't start (not a good look), then started it up and the exhaust fell off  needless to say they didn't buy it. The car had been faultless up till then and never had another problem after that - pretty bad luck!!

I can relate to this! In an effort to be light weight I used one too few clamps on the exhaust and it parted company with the extractors AND the car!

Managed to finish the race but couldn't go over 7000rpm...not because of the engine performance but because the sound inside the car became painful!!

exactly this happened to me... twice :)

first time it didnt' slip off fully and i hammered it back on and drove home with a loud popping sound from the leaky joint

2nd time, it fell off completely and i had to take off the rest of the zorst and stuff it in a mate's car. was about 10ks from home. drove home loudly and just turned off the motor and coasted down hillls :P

the design of this type of LCB annoys me so much. why have the joint for the collector in such a place that it can fall off. like GeoffP says: with a maniflow type LCB the joint is horizontal, so even if ur supports break or otherwise, at least the thing won't fall off the car.
