For my 1098 (40 thou, whatever whatever)
Am i insane?
Even if i get it jetted and choked right, will it offer much more than my incorrectly needled HS4?
I hope so.

Depends what else is done to the motor. Chong's bored 1098 is running a Dellorto 45DHLA (same horse, different colour) and it goes pretty hard.

Why don't you try a 40DCOE or 40DHLA first :?: a smaller carby should give you stronger bottm end torque and better drivability.
According to the yellow book (if my memory serves correctly) the performance loss for too big a carby is greater than the performance loss for too small a carby

Besides a 40DCOE can be picked up for close to $100(used obviously) where as a 45DCOE can be quite expensive, (second hand) new they are just ridiculous

willy, if you are planning to go to 1275 or bigger then buy a 45. If not then get a Dellorto 40. Lots of them around and cheap off old Alfas.

The only reason I am running a 45 on Lillee is

1) I got it for CHEAP and it's better than the original single 1 1/4SU
2) I have all the parts here for a killer 13XXcc motor that I am going to use the dellorto on

I honestly think 45mm webber is too big. In actual fact, I think my dellorto45 with 34mm chockes is a bit big for low end torque. Goes hard top end though  But don't forget, Lillee is bored 60 thou (1152) and has a "As-good-as-it-gets" GR 12G295 head on top so unless you have "secret weapons" like moi, don't bother. Save your money and get a Dellorto 40 which will get you more horses and getter low end torque for road driving.

Spend the rest of the cash that you save on a good intake manifold for extra horses!

Just read this. Then go for it, buy a 45. Just note that if you get a dellorto 45 and it has 34mm chokes then it may be a tad big. You may want to downgrade it to 32mm chokes for better low end torque. Either way you have to spend yet more dosh when you do your 1275 and whack in 36mm chokes. All costs money in the end.

Make sure whatever you buy comes with intake manifold and linkages, otherwise you'll be out another $100 for each of those items!
