Just wondering what tyres (10's) are best for grip/handling without being too ridiculously priced or too short life. I read a post from the Doc about A008's giving good grip and being half worn at 8000 miles. that sounds ok, but has anyone had experience with other tyres like Dunlop Formula R's? The D93J Formula R's have got a nice tread pattern. the other Formula R option, the SP Sport R7 has a tread pattern like you would expect to see on a super budget tyre, but are they silica like the other new SP Sport tyres? I used to think (from what i'd heard) that Falkens were the ones to get but it seems from what i've read here that they're not too popular now... Any thoughts?

The Yoko A008 would be my choice.

I had basic Falken 145s on my old mags and all I will say is that they were an okay road tyre, but that's it. I hear the 165 Falkens have one of the widest tread width (it varies, the tread width on my 165 bridgestones isn't much wider than the 145 falkens!)

I'd go the A008s if it is for road use and weekend racing. Dunlop Rs look top notch but don't expect them to last if it's a daily driver.

I've only driven on the yokie A008's, and I wont be changing. They stick like stink to my boss.

I've driven the same mini (a good mate's) on Yokahama A008's and then on Falkens. Loved the A008's not so keen on the Falkens and definately don't like my bridgestone's.
Similar thiig happened on my Falcon I had Yokahama A539's wore them out (45,000km) got some G-grid 3's and nearly went off the first corner i had a chance to attack :o :oops: , my old A539's stuck better old than the new tyres, i thought they might still be green so i gave it a while, still not as good and paid the same $$$ for them. Going back to Yokahama's when i destroy these 8) . The same goes for my van the next set will be yokie A008's then my problem will be getting to the corner fast enought to actually use the grip of them :lol:

Yeah the bridgestones on my Mini squeal like a pig and slide around a bit. So when I corner hard it's more a case of four wheel drift at best or severe oversteer!

I've got the A539's (225/60/15) on my EF fairmont and i've been VERY impressed with them esp in the wet, so I'm keen to try Yoko's on the mini. The tyres on there now are the bridgestone's (SF226) and they're hopeless. I'd just like to hear if anyone's had experience with either of these dunlops...

Anybody know what you pay for a set of Falken 145'2 need to get some std's for putt putt. I am guessing about $40-50 each, but am hoping less? Anyone?

Falkens are ok but from experience they are crap in the wet. i'd probably go A008's, there is also an A008R (R- for racing).

I use A008s. There are also Yoko A032Rs, better grip but wear twice as quick. And need lots of neg camber to work properly...
We got A008s for $97 each, A032Rs are double that or more. :shock:

For Marcia she will be recieveing Yokie's A008

Morris she is running on Bridgestone SF226 165 70/R672S Polyester on all 5 wheels.
Cant say we have had much problems with them. they do squal a little when low on pressure but I guess they are tell us Pump Me Up please
I was told by my old Mech (now its me) that they were an excellent tyre.
I have not had to replace them yet and Morris has been with us for 2 + years and a daily drive over 60K's per working day. Hay Sue has not spun Morris yet so I'd say they are good and I would say a better price than 008's and we have had no problems with them.

But Marcia will be on 008's I love my Yokie's. I have have had them on HR Holden and the RX4 (and they got a good work out) :shock: :D \

im gonna whip myself up 4 A008's soon :D

it's them or disk brakes... im leaning towards disk brakes first.. then 1275.. then tyres :D

my handbrake needs a good work out, stiff as a nun and the tyres are a mix of retreads and firestones.. i love the wet :twisted: :x :twisted:

No offense to the gents at Dunlop, but I almost rate them with the import tyres for their grip, and personally think they wear twice as quick.

I used to run Yokie A352 big fat 265's, then Bridgestone RE92's(Donuts) on my commodores, I was really impressed with those donuts.

I've got a pair of old 165/70-10 Dunlop LeMans, probably 10 years old... can't buy them now. I do reckon they were the next best thing to Yokos. . I had them on the front, with Falkens on the back- car kept getting sideways big time at Wakefield Pk, so I went and bought 4 Yoko A008s... :lol:

<edit> Dunno about the new Dunlops, but some more feedback would be good.

97 each is steep, but not too bad compared to your cheapie Bridgestone or Bob Jane generic tyre.

Mmmmm, big treads.

The tires on the one ive got are quite slippery... pull up the handbrake in the dry and it pulls them along for 10 metres... both wheels locked up and no throttle.

8) Not saying that i do handbrakies. :oops:
